DBOT5 At Tony Hawk’s Stand Up For Skateparks Benefit

DBOT5 recently spent some time commiserating with some incredibly cool peeps at the 8th Annual Stand Up For Skateparks event held in sparkly Beverly Hills, California.

The Man Himself, Mr. Tony Hawk

Sponsored by the one and only skate innovator Tony Hawk, the whirlwind-packed day drew in close to 1,000 guests, as well as famous faces from all over the entertainment and sports worlds.

Always a fan of Hawk’s passion for sports and philanthropy, DBOT5 was on hand at the Beverly Hills event site to get a taste of the family-centric carnival-style benefit, which offered a fun-filled day of pro skating and BMX activities for its guests.

There was no mistaking the mission behind the benefit, as funds for the foundation were being raised to help improve the lives of kids in low income communities, by the development of high-quality public skate parks across the country.

Being the do-gooders that they are, DBOT5 gladly donated some of their original signature gear! The next event will be held on November 5, 2011 in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.

Stevie Bell Goes To Bootcamp

A few weeks ago, Pro Snowboarder and DBOT5 lifestyle golfer Stevie Bell spent some uber-exciting time out in the luscious lands of California getting a taste of Spy’s 8th Annual Summer Bootcamp!

Very much in Stevie style, he was seen exerting what appears to be a lifetime amount of endless energy surfing, wakeboarding and riding moto.  It’s kinda exhausting just watching Stevie. We’re pretty sure he may be part robot…but we’ll have to get back to you on that one. (Research in progress.) Take a peek at some pictures of Stevie, making his way through the bootcamp madness.

Spy’s Summer Bootcamp is a sort-of fantasy retail contest which gives nine of their lucky retailers the chance to experience what the real California dream is all about! The five days of events take place right in Spy’s backyard, alongside Spy’s pro athletes. DBOT5 is super proud that our man Stevie had the chance to give us a look in side his adventures with Spy. The Bootcamp 8 crew also got to check out the Summer X Games for a day as well as hit up the “Fantasy Factory” for a Monster party with skateboarder Rob Dyrdek.

LA Galaxy’s Omar Gonzalez Above Par

By : Marissa Foglia for DBOT5

Omar Gonzalez isn’t your average MLS player.

When he isn’t dominating the soccer fields, he can be found swinging, or in this case, seducing any of the golf courses in Southern California….and we love that his oh-so-lovely DBOT5 clubs get to share the Omar Experience while he is on the course.

LA Galaxy's Omar Gonzalez

The 21-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy player was drafted in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. He earned his keep that same season as he won MLS Rookie of the Year Award. We’re happy that our clubs get to accompany Omar as he hones his talents for golf in his free time.

Stay tuned to DBOT5’s website for more info. We’ll be checking in with Omar every now and again as he and his DBOT5 gear make their way around the green!

LA Galaxy’s Josh Saunders Tees Off At Trump National Golf Club

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5

With the World Cup in full force, DBOT5 thought it’d be fun to hunt down some MLS players who have a thing for golf. So we chatted up one of our favorite lifestyle golfers, the LA Galaxy’s Josh Saunders.

Saunders recently took some time out from cheering on teammate Landon Donovan and the U.S., to hit the impressive course over at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.

Sure Saunders’ day may have entailed a challenging course, punk music, and a little anger release on the 18th hole, but it remained a luxury golf experience nonetheless. We’d expect nothing less from a Trump course.

“The views of Catalina were amazing,” he said. “I brought along the radio blasting’ a little punk and ska, DJ’d by my golf partner Rory Campbell, lead singer of Just Because.”

And you already know the 29-year-old Galaxy goalkeeper was stylin’ with his DBOT5 clubs as he meandered his way through the 18 holes along Trump’s perfectly-manicured, yet somewhat frustrating course.

“Got out a little frustration on Hole 18,” he said. “Bangin’ a couple balls into the ocean…much to the dismay of the course manager. Nothin’ like a little 7 iron birdies on the par threes. Probably the hardest course ever. Even the pros say it’s enough to make you take a couple Patron shots along the way.”

Hey, at least he’s honest!

“All in all a good great day at the course. Sun, golf, tunes…and a little Patron.”

DBOT5 Hits Hollywood For Transworld SKATEboarding Awards

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5

Transworld held its 12th Annual SKATEboarding Awards on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. DBOT5 was on hand and ready to mingle among the invite-only skateboarding crowd!

Of course we wanted to be there, since the event was hosted by DBOT5’s athletic supporter and golfer Pat Duffy…which, as expected, made for an entertaining time. Duffy welcomed the few thousand skateboarding guests to the ceremony which was held at Hollywood’s historic Avalon Theater at Hollywood & Vine.

DBOT5’s founder Bryce Hepworth stopped in to the event with hopes to bring on more skateboarders to DBOT5’s current roster of golfing athletic supporters. Hepworth took in the scene while hanging out among the likes of Pat Duffy, Bam Magera and Anthony Manfredi, who was nice enough to hook up DBOT5 at the event. Many thanks Anthony!

The award winners were determined by polling over 150 professional skateboarders worldwide. The night’s awards went to:

BEST ROOKIE Brandon Westgate
BEST VIDEO PART Grant Taylor – “Debacle”
BEST TEAM Flip
BEST STREET Chris Cole
BEST TRANSITION Grant Taylor
BEST VIDEO Extremely Sorry
TWS READERS’ CHOICE Lizard King

Hepworth also spent some time taking part of a stellar photo shoot with JP Walker over in Carlsbad, CA. Pictures from the shoot of JP swinging some swanky DBOT5 clubs will be surfacing soon! So be sure to keep an eye out.

JP Walker: Pro Snowboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

JP Walker has come a long way from his beginnings as a young kid skating the streets of Farmington, Utah with Jeremy Jones. JP a.k.a. “The Don”, has become one of the most highly respected athletes in the snowboarding industry for a number of reasons…how much time do you have? This guy perfectly blends his innovative tricks with an unmatched and unparalleled style, not to mention the ten years of insanely impressive video parts.

JP has the kind of skills so envied that spectators are often simply left shaking their heads in awe. You can find countless articles, including more than 8 magazine covers in the last year graced with JP’s confidence.

Publications such as Snowboard, Method and Transworld Snowboarding just to name a few. JP continues to push the progression of snowboarding in his own way, filming for the Stepchild/32 Team video with teammates Simon Chamberlain and Joe Sexton. JP also understands the coolness of golf and it’s no surprise he enjoys putting away in his spare time…whenever that is. Keep an eye out on DBOT5′s website for more updates on JP and his dope skills on the course!

Stevie Bell: Pro Snowboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Stevie, a.k.a. “The Kid” is turning heads on the snow as well as the green. Stevie burst onto the scene in 2005. His outgoing, energetic personality blended with his ongoing roster of extensive appearances in major snowboarding films shows that this kid isn’t going anywhere.

Stevie is one busy bee as he favors golf in his available free time. The Utah native claims his gold handicap is, well, a bad temper…but we won’t hold that against him..because at the end of the day this kid has more athletic talent than most people anyone of us know. We like him rocking’ our DBOT5 gear ‘cuz his attitude mends well with our mission…lifestyle for the extreme!

Pat Duffy: Pro Skateboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Pat Duffy is, well, a revolutionary in the world of skateboarding. This guy has most definitely given his hometown of Corte Madera, California something to brag about. Pat is known for his dope rail grinding…it’s beyond impressive. Aside from his skating skills, he is featured in the video games Skate and Skate 2…a favorite of infinite kid (and adult) video fans worldwide.

He also laid a part in Plan B’s videos “Questionable,” and “Virtual Reality”. Could Hollywood be calling? Man, this guy gets around…he was more recently featured on an episode of the MTV series Scarred. No wonder he continues to claim sponsors such as the newly-reformed Plan B Skateboards. When he isn’t conquering the concrete with his coveted moves and rail grinds, Pat slows it down on the gold course with a little relaxing tee time. Have I mentioned we think he looks great donning DBOT5 hot gear as he makes his way though 18 holes? Oh yes!

Danny Harf: Pro Wakeboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Since turning pro in the year 2000, Danny Harf has continuously dominated the rapid-filled world of wakeboarding. It seems like this guy owns real estate at the winning podium. He is a four-time X-Games gold medalist and 2006 Pro Tour Champ. Danny is adored by not only fans, but fellow riders as well. His down to earth disposition is as smooth as his style on the water…and quite refreshing.

You can also find his pretty face smothered over nine events on GrindTV. We like that aside from all of this mayhem he conquers up against the wakes, he still takes time to hit the green and spend time golfing. Ever the competitor, we anticipate he will soon be dominating on the courses as well…donning DBOT5 gear of course!

Details:

Shane Bonifay: Pro Wakeboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Ah, the ever-so-entertaining Shane Bonifay. Who doesn’t love Shane’s antics (and his wildly tousled curls) both on and off the water? I know we do. Also known as “Shane Danger Bonifay”, this boy can put any wake to shame. Shane lives by the motto of “Party as hard as you want, but just make sure you work harder.”

It makes sense to us…as Shane is always the life of the party! Shane is one of the hottest talents to come out of Lake Alfred, FL…both the town and the lake we would presume. DBOT5 was excited to learn that Shane really enjoys golfing, too…trying to get it in as much as he can in between riding on the water. DBOT5 loves outfitting guys like Shane with stylish gear for the green. People like Shane tend to be a favored poster boy for the extreme and we love that!

Jeff House: Pro Wakeboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Pro Wakeboarder and Knoxville, TN native Jeff House is nice to look at both on and off the water…this guy has a riding style that leaves shore-bound spectators in awe. We haven’t had a chance to officially check, but we are thinking that Jeff may just have wings somewhere under that wetsuit of his.

Not to mention he spends much of his free time in the offseason shredding on any number of slopes on his snowboard. We like the fearless athletes who do a bunch of fun stuff we can write about! Currently residing in Winter Haven, FL, Jeff has recently had his boat outfitted with our new DBOT5 speakers. (Pics to come very soon!)

Erin Comstock: Pro Snowboarder

By: Marissa Foglia for DBOT5.com

Let us share a little secret with you…this girl is the total package! Not only is Erin THE best woman in snowboarding today, but she’s really easy on the eyes and super smart! Growing up with Lake Tahoe in her backyard must have been a dreamy setting and a super inspiration for this multi-talented sports chick…especially with all those slopes and winter sports at her disposal.

In 2002, Erin’s career really started to soar as she gained a place on the Roxy snow team! Her accomplishments have skyrocketed from there. At the 2004 U.S. Open she took 2nd place in the rail competition. That same year she took 1st at the Red Bull Heavy Metal Rail Jam. But it was Erin’s 2006/2007 season that set her over the edge as a pro, as she was filmed for two snowboarding films…pretty sweet. Keep an eye out for Erin in the pages of countless board mags and on DBOT5’s website.

We love her free spirit and athletic abilities…and the fact that she really digs golf. She hearts DBOT5, too (which makes us smile) because she fancies a golf company that suits her stylish taste…thank you very much!
